Maybe it's a power thing. With ~400 ft/lbs at the wheels a Nitto DR might not really work any better than a street tire. But on my car with 280 rwtq it's just right.

As for the rain, they do have shallower tread, and less grooves. I expected some loss in wet traction but that hasn't really been the case. I drive with the TCS on when the roads are wet and it never kicks on driving normally, it still takes a decent amount of power to get them loose.

Obviously different people have different results with these tires, I guess it depends heavily on the car and what your expectations are.
