Too far???

We have people coming from SW Pennsylvania, South Jersey, Syracuse and Canada. I think the newest car in that group is almost 40 years old and probably doesn't get more than 12 MPG. At least you are still in New England and have a late model car that probably gets good mileage

Also, that cooler weather is one of the main reasons the trip is in October. That way more radically built cars don't have to worry as much about overheating problems

far from me means doing a day trip. my work scedule doesn't allow me much more than Saturdays to go out and play.

That is a big reason why we hold this down to just an extended weekend affair. Would love to make it longer, but lots of people don't a lot of vacation time to burn on just one trip. The majority of people have weekends off, so it isn't that hard for them to get one extra day. Once people go on the Rod Run just once, they usually put in for their time off, for the next year's trip, as soon as they get home.

That is the beauty of this trip. No one has to wonder when the actual dates are for "the next trip". They just look at the calendar and see the first Saturday, Sunday, and Monday in October and know that's when the trip will be.

Our first year I told people it's not really for kids, just because I wanted to see how it played out.

After that first year, we realized that we've had such a great group of people, so a few people have now taken their children. Funny thing is that only one person has taken his teenage son and the rest have taken their daughters. I would have thought it the other way?

Also, the first year there only 3 couples, but now the majority of people going seem to be couples, eventhough they each might take their own car.

This is why I like to stress, while some of us might end up doing some "spirited runs" for short bursts, we don't need any people coming on the run thinking it's just all racing around. It is a mature group that pretty much knows when to say when and we don't need any assholes screwing it up for everyone else. This is another reason I gear this more toward American Muscle, instead of the import crowd. Most of that crowd is younger kids that don't really know how to just chill out. They are always trying to impress, they have their pants hanging off their asses, baseball hats on sideways, and always have their stereos cranking so everyone has to listen to their music. If you've ever been to any carshow, you know exactly what I'm talking about. This is not the image I want this thing to take on.

The nights are a different story. Some people party until the early morning hours, while others just use the downtime to have a relaxing night, and still others might end up going out to dinner together. Everyone always finds a group that suits their interests and might just kind of split off with them for the evenings.
