So i was up at the races last night for the first time in about 3 years. A ton of 16-18yr old kids with daddy's money..They had STI's old bugeye WRX's with upgraded turbos tons of stuff done were there, a few mustangs, tons of civics of course..it is brockton..not 1 person would run me..it was quite frustrating..after about 4hrs of sitting around, the racing started, tons of civics racing and the end of the night came, a kid whos a friend of a friend. Has a 09 cobalt SS, 76mm turbo, stroker motor,FMIC,tune, downpipe full exhaust, 2 step, axles, and drag radials shows up..it made 449whp and went 12.4 last month in NC where the kid is stationed for the marines, i finally after 4 hours get my race!!! my car being a A4 made me doubt it, but we came out of the hole, i went out about 4 cars initially, top of the road at the 1/4 mile marker i had him by what i was told, atleast 10 cars. Everybody i know that was there, said that kid hasnt lost on the street...I felt awesome beating that thing..Just wanted to share my story!

Nice kill! that kid should probably kill himself though cause his cobalt should be way deep inthe 11's with all that or faster.

I accidentaly hit dislike, but I totally like this post hahahaha. Good kill. There are a lot of cars around me that kids dump all their money into the cars, and theyre not built right and run like shit. Just a big collection of expensive parts. Sounds like this kid's in the same boat.
:klab:
I'm sure he couldn't hook worth a shit either tho. Good kill

A4's are easier to launch and better for drag racing.

You must have a decent amount of stuff done to walk a mid 12 second car yes?

Cobalt's suck to launch if you have stock suspension still. Major wheelhop. I can imagine how much problems he has with over double the hp of my car.

People complain about 10 bolts because they mod the shit out of their cars (except the rear), put sticky tires on them, take them to the drag strip and launch the balls off of them and break the rear. The 10 bolt is fine for the car as GM built it. Do people still break them with stock power? Sure, it happens, but lots of stuff will break if you beat on any car hard enough. People don't upgrade their rears when their mods warrant it because they just spent $3-4K on heads/cam/bolt ons and they don't want to spend another $2K on the nine inch that they badly need. That's not the 10 bolt's fault.

Preach Alex! haha
every time i hear someone say to put a 9 inch in I laugh. when you break a 10 bolt get a 9" imo. its like when an LT1 doesn't start everyone says LS1 swap or EFI connections swap.

i think tony is a good example of why 10 bolts are ok for automatic cars. 6 speed is a different story

I think what really saves Tony's car is that it weighs about as much as a box of napkins. His setup and a full weight car would probably break something. It may be an auto but an SS3600 isn't exactly gentle on the drivetrain.

Sam's car ran on a 10 bolt for a little and i dont remember it breaking. Theres also Meg with a 10 bolt still to. Both cars are turboed autos. If you have a 6spd car and plan on modding it and or racing it at the strip you should start looking into a rear. Youre gonna be on either DRs or Slicks and its only a matter of time before it goes boom. So a auto car with bolt ons or even a heads cam car i wouldnt be to worried about it.

so if im planning a little 100shot, cam, retainers, lifters and a full edit, some drag radials this winter...i also have a fully built auto going in it, going to do a yank 36 or 3800 stall as well..should i bother worrying about the rear end or should i do some 3:42 or 3:73 to the stock 10bolt? car is just about to hit 107k.

get rid of the 10bolt with those mods.

Regardless if some people get lucky with a 10 bolt, they still suck at anything more than stock power. Why couldnt gm put a good rear in like ford did with the 8.8s
Blue01Z
08-15-2013, 03:26 PM
thanks don! the plan is to drop it off in the winter for the cam/full edit tune/NOS install.

im doing a window switch so it doesnt act like its a "shot out of the hole" you know? gonna kick in at around 2200 or so stop at like 5-5200rpm..hopefully that helps out.

I'd suggest no earlier then 3000 and it's still a full hit unless you use a progressive controller

Yes even with the window switch its a kick in the pants. M6 cars def need a good rear. Honestly if you can swing it then do the rear. Best money I spent when I was a M6 and now with the stalled auto and trans break I still don't worry about it.
Camarokid91- I remember those days lol. Wouldn't say I ran it but there were a lot of unsuspecting people who underestimated my car then.
