Looking to replace the pistons in my old shortblock so I can have a spare and my 2 choices are go forged and re-balance the rotating assembly or go stock and just put them on. Since budget is a big deal for me right now you'd think the stockers would be the way to go. WRONG! A set of Diamond forged pistons costs less then $600.00, a set of stockers is, get ready for it, almost $900.00. Depending on the cost of balancing this is still a no brainer, but not quite how I expected.

Where did you get the $900 price from? That's not all that surprising, I've seen lots of applications where better quality aftermarket parts are cheaper than stock replacements.

Gmpd was the cheapest, $80.0 a piston but ridiculous shipping, everywhere else was roughly $125 a piston

Our cars idle pretty smooth, but balancing the bottom end is supposed to give a silky smooth idle.. :D

actually. he will need to balance it for the new rotating parts that will be a different weight then the factory pieces the crank was balanced for. lighter pistons and rods will add a TON of vibrations if not balanced properly.
