A few months ago I bought a rebuilt gen IV 427 on EBay for my 69 Camaro and had nothing but problems with it. Low oil pressure (5-10 psi) and high temperatures (210-220 degrees F).
I brought it to Precision Automotive in Simsbury, CT to be checked and was told: Bores 4.313 - 4.3135 Pistons 4.307 = 0.0065 CL Ring Gap 0.027 to 0.028 Crank Mains 2.7385 0.10 under Main Housing Bore +0.005 0.006 CL Bearing Rods 2.1895 0.010 0.0015 CL Cam is Comp Cams 294S (# 11-219-4) 0.022 Lash 595 248 110 degrees 595 248 (not same as book) Spring 1.88/1280 1.45/380 he also said: - it was originally a 2 bolt converted to a 4 bolt - the mains are way over (6 thou clearance) - the rods are a little tight - the bearings are history - he will hone and ring it so they rebuilt it and put it on the dyno today. Dyno setup: Running: went to 505 hp
