I drive a 1999 GMC sierra 1500 reg cab short bed as a DD. So a couple days ago, I noticed my trucks body was sitting weird, it looked like it was sagging in the middle. I figured maybe cab mounts. So I finally crawled under it today to look at it, and it turns out the frame is cracked on both sides! Now I know the frame looks rough in the pictures, but its actually not that bad. The truck itself is in great shape, no body rust, except for the front bumper, runs great, no issues. What really gets me is that its a short truck, and I dont tow with it, I dont carry any heavy loads, the most ive ever put in the bed of this truck is an old 350. All I use this truck for is regular driving, and it has somewhat low mileage 118000. The two cracks seem to stop before halfway up the frame rail. My question is: is this repairable? or is this thing going to end up totaled?

same thing happened at the same spot with my 99 silverado!
I welded plates on the frame to buy a few more months till I traded it in. that was 3 years ago and it was holding great since. it is caused by the brine they spray on the roads in the winter. btw the brake lines will be going soon too!!!! I would not drive the truck until you fix it!!!!!!!

You might consider talking to a frame shop too, they may have a better idea of what can be done

fuck it. its a 99. thay were not the best year anyways (first year of the body style.) cheap fix that will hold it together. jack it up from under the crack and weld in a 2' peice of 2x2x1/4" angle on either side and it will hold it together.....for a while. would start looking for a truck tho.

Is there enough good material around the crack to weld to? I know you said it's not as bad as it looks, but it looks pretty bad.
