That's because you haven't driven your across town, let alone across states lol.

Put some deep gears in the back and start taking it on lots of road trips. That 400 will be out real quick

700R4 with hardened input and sun shell and your good for 400rwhp. No Drag Racing. a th350 in stock form or built up will handle more obviously. but why tackle the same project twice. throw the 700 in there. and wen its all set up and run right with it. get a junkyard 700 core and have a tranny shop go threw it locally and have a Decently built 700 for under a grand usually.

cuz you dont have all the tools at home do you?!?!?! 700r4s arent easy. have rebuilt a couple in stock trim. and spent just as much cuz i had to have the input/pump teflons stretched/installed. and then have the 3/4 drum truned. all in all just better off Unless its your own personal tranny. have a shop do it, just my .02

Actually I have the installer for the teflons and I have access to a lathe to do the drum if need be.

Wow - I'd like to know where some of these shops are. Any of the shops around here in NY want to suck you dry. I cant carry in a th350 for less than ~1200->1500 (from the calls I've made). 700r4 is more.
